DESPITE their failure to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, the Super Eagles have risen in the latest FIFA ranking.
The Nigerian side lost out to Ghana on the away goals rule after a 1-1 draw in their World Cup playoffs second leg in Abuja on Tuesday.
Two days later, both teams climbed up in the FIFA ranking.
The Super Eagles rose from 32nd in the February ranking to 30th in the latest version released on Thursday.
They however lost five points despite their upward trajectory in the table, going from 1509 points to 1504 points.
Nigeria remain the third highest-ranked team in Africa behind Senegal (No.20 in the world) and Morocco (No.24). Egypt (world No.32) and Tunisia (35th in the world) complete Africa’s top five positions.
Ghana on their part climbed from 61st in the world to 60th, gaining 5.91 ranking points in the process.
They however remain outside Africa’s top 10, retaining their 11th position on the continent.
Belgium, Brazil, France, Argentina and England are the top five teams in the world.
Sixth to 10th spots are taken by Italy, Spain, Portugal, Denmark and the Netherlands.
