SPAIN and Germany will battle each other in the highest-profile clash of the group stage of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
The 2010 champions and 2014 champions were both placed in Group E during the draw ceremony for the tournament held in Doha on Friday evening.
The other teams in the group are Japan and the winners of the intercontinental playoff between Costa Rica and New Zealand.
African representatives Cameroon, Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal and Ghana also found out their group opponents during the draw, in which former Nigeria captain Austin Jay Jay Okocha played a role.
African champions Senegal are in Group A along with Ecuador, European heavyweights Netherlands and hosts Qatar, while Cameroon are in Group G with new world No.1 Brazil, Serbia and Switzerland.
Tunisia are in Group D up against current world champions France, Denmark and the winners of the intercontinental playoffs between United Arab Emirates, Australia and Peru.
Ghana, who knocked Nigeria out, are in Group H with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea, while Morocco will face Belgium, Canada and Croatia in Group F.
The World Cup, the first to be held in the Middle East, is scheduled for 21 November to 18 December.
