TAIWO Awoniyi could return to England at the end of this season if a satisfactory deal could be struck to take him back.
The Super Eagles striker is the subject of keen interest from both West Ham United and newly rich Newcastle United, according to reports in England.
Awoniyi, 24, joined Union Berlin in the Bundesliga on a permanent deal last July for £6 million and has been in fine form for the German club.
He has produced 16 goals and five assists in all competitions this season, scoring 12 times in the Bundesliga as Union Berlin fight for a European spot.
Although Awoniyi did not make a single senior appearance for Liverpool (he was sent out on loan seven times after joining them in 2015) and has never played in the Premier League, West Ham, Newcastle and Southampton believe he will be a hit in England.
Despite paying only £6m for him, Union Berlin are reportedly insisting on at least £30m before Awoniyi will be allowed to leave this summer.
The Nigeria international is also believed to have a clause in his move to the Bundesliga entitling Liverpool to a 10 per cent sell-on fee.
He helped Union Berlin qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League while on loan last term as they finished seventh in just their second season back in the top flight.
Awoniyi’s form last season convinced Union Berlin to make his move permanent and they are reaping the rewards as his goals have taken them to seventh again this season.
He was in Nigeria’s squad to the Africa Cup of Nations in January, where he scored once as the Super Eagles reached the round of 16.
