Arsenal step up efforts to sign Osimhen as Napoli demand €80m

ARSENAL are keen to sign Victor Osimhen and have contact with the striker’s representatives, according to reports in Italy.

Super Eagles star Osimhen is being targeted by several big European clubs, but Arsenal are said to be the most serious at the moment.

Osimhen fits the profile of the kind of striker Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is looking for and the Gunners have stepped up their efforts to sign the Nigeria international from Napoli.

Gazzetta dello Sport claimed on Monday that Arsenal have ‘already taken several concrete steps through intermediaries’ to sign the Nigerian.

Arsenal let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave for Barcelona in January and are plotting to make Osimhen his replacement.

Osimhen is said to want to move to a club in the UEFA Champions League if he decides to leave Napoli at the end of this season, and Arsenal are in a good position to qualify for the competition.

The Gunners are currently fourth in the Premier League, two points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in fifth, with five games to go.

There are also reports that Napoli are demanding at least €80m from any club interested in buying Osimhen, although the Italians would rather keep their top scorer.

Gazzetta dello Sport added that Arsenal are in pole position and have made progress in their pursuit of Osimhen, although ‘there is no definitive agreement reached yet’.

Osimhen, 23, is in his second season at Napoli after joining the Italian side from Lille for around €80m in the summer of 2020.

He has played a key role in steering Napoli to third place in Serie A, scoring 12 goals in 23 appearances in the league despite missing two months due to a nasty head injury.
