MANCHESTER City’s Phil Foden has been named the 2021/22 Premier League Young Player of the Season for the second year in a row.
The England international was announced as the winner today, becoming the first player to win it in successive campaigns.
He claimed the award ahead of Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Chelsea’s Mason Mount and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and four other contenders.
The 21-year-old has contributed nine goals and five assists in 27 appearances to steer Manchester City towards the Premier League title.
Foden’s average of a goal or an assist every 146 minutes this season is the best of any player aged 21 or under to have played at least 500 minutes, according to the Premier League’s official website.
“I am very proud to have won this award for a second season in a row,” Foden told his club’s official website.
“I have been really happy with my performances this season and it has been great to contribute to this team in what will hopefully be another successful year for us all.
“To be nominated alongside so many great players is an honour as they have all had great seasons for their clubs.”
Foden won the award after he received the most combined votes from the public and a Premier League panel.
Apart from Saka, Mount and Alexander-Arnold, the other nominees for the award were Crystal Palace’s Conor Gallagher and Tyrick Mitchell, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.
