Angela Lansbury receives Tony award for lifetime achievement

AMERICAN-BRITISH-IRISH actress, Angela Lansbury is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 Tony Awards on June 12, 2022.

The actress who has already won five competitive Tony awards has had a career span of over 75 years, having acted in over 70 films. She has 6 Golden Globes, and 18 Emmy nominations and is the recipient of an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement. She was named Dame Commander of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 2014.

Lansbury has a Broadway career, having made her debut in 1957. She returned to Broadway in 2007 after a 24-year break. Shows acted include “Hotel Paradiso”, “In anyone Can Whistle”, “Mame”, “Dear World”, “Gypsy”, “Sweeney Todd”, “Deuce”, “Blithe Spirit”, “A Little Night Music” and “The Best Man”.

She was the voice of Mrs Potts in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” and acted in “Nanny McPhee.” She also starred as Jessica Fletcher in “Murder, She Wrote”, the longest-running detective drama series in TV history.

The Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre, also known as the Tony Award, recognizes excellence in live Broadway theatre. It is the theatre’s most prestigious award and airs on June 12, 2022.
