FIFA and the Local Organising Committee of the 2026 World Cup have selected 16 cities where the event will be staged.
The announcement was made in the early hours of this morning.
The cities are across the three co-hosting countries United States of America, Mexico and Canada, who are jointly hosting the North American World Cup.
Main host USA has the most host cities with 11, with Mexico having three and Canada two.
The US host cities include Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City and Los Angeles.
The other cities in the US to stage World Cup games are Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle.
Mexico’s capital Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara will also be hosting, while the games in Canada will be in Toronto and Vancouver.
The United States will be hosting the World Cup for the second time after staging it successfully in 1994, incidentally the first time Nigeria ever qualified and reached the second round.
Mexico has hosted it twice previously, in 1970 and 1986, with huge success.
However, this is the first time Canada will be involved in hosting games of the world’s biggest single-sport event.
The 2026 World Cup is the first one in which with teams will qualify, expanding from the present 36-team format.
