Barcelona spank Neville’s Inter Miami in pre-season friendly

Barcelona got their pre-season off to an impressive start this morning with a 6-0 annihilation of Inter Miami in the United States of America.

The Spanish giants’ new signing Raphinha scored one of the goals and assisted two others as they overran the Major League Soccer side coached by former England international Phil Neville.

Despite the hammering, Neville gave his son Harvey and club co-owner David Beckham’s son Romeo appearances in the friendly encounter, the former playing for 45 minutes, the latter for four.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ansu Fati, Gavi, Memphis Depay and Ousmane Dembele scored the other goals in the one-sided rout, while former Real Madrid and Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain featured for Inter Miami.

Barcelona’s newest signing Robert Lewandowski, who completed his £42.5million move from Bayern Munich last night, watched from the stands of the DRK PNV Stadium in Miami, while manager Xavi was unable to attend because of USA visa issues.

Raphinha, making his Barca debut after joining from Leeds United for £56m in early July, set up Aubameyang for the opening goal in the 19th minute, and then extended the lead himself six minutes later with a left-foot strike.

Teenage sensation Fati netted Barcelona’s third goal just before half-time off another assist from Raphinha.

Barcelona began the second half with 11 substitutions but did not stop dominating and scored three more through Gavi, Depay and Dembele in the 55th, 69th and 70th minutes.
