Cristiano Ronaldo has given a huge hint that he will play for Manchester United on Sunday, weeks after the beginning of pre-season preparations.
The 37-year-old, who is reportedly seeking a move away from the Premier League club, only returned to Old Trafford for pre-season on Tuesday, three weeks after his teammates began training for the new season.
Ronaldo has missed United’s four pre-season friendly matches against Liverpool in Bangkok as well as Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa in Australia, citing ‘family reasons’ for his absence as reports claim he has been offered to several clubs across Europe by his agent Jorge Mendes.
He was also left out of the squad that travelled to Norway for a friendly against Atletico Madrid billed for tomorrow in Oslo.
Atletico Madrid are incidentally one of the clubs he was linked with but who distanced themselves from him.
However, after attacking the media for what he referred to as using his name to make money, Ronaldo has indicated that he will make his first appearance under Erik ten Hag on Sunday.
“Sunday, the King plays,” Ronaldo wrote on Instagram tonight in response to a post mentioning him.
Manchester United will host Spanish side Rayo Vallecano on Sunday in their final friendly before kicking off their Premier League campaign at home to Brighton on August 7.
The Rayo Vallecano friendly is coming just a day after the team likely to face Brighton will play Atletico Madrid.
Therefore, Ronaldo is among the players Ten Hag will not count on for the opening Premier League contest.
