Lekki Deep Sea Port receives second vessel from Shangai

FEW weeks after receiving its first ship, the Lekki Deep Sea Port today welcomed its second vessel.

The vessel, ZEN-HUA 35, which arrived from China conveyed shipment of two ships to the port’s shore on Friday afternoon.

The packages includes,  rubber tyres, and accessories from Shangai in China. “The yard equipment for the port is expected to be shipped shortly”, a company source said.

Recall that the first ever ship to the Lekki Deep Sea Port berthed on July 1, 2022 as it received the first ever vessel, Zhen Hua 28.

The vessel brought three Ships To Shore (STS) cranes and 10 Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes.

Reacting to the development, the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mohammed Bello-Koko, said the successful delivery of the three STS and the ten RTG cranes was critical to the commencement of operations at the deep seaport.

Though construction work is still ongoing at the port but it has neared completion. Bello-Koko said, when fully operational, the deep seaport will be the first fully automated port in Nigeria.

Earlier this month, the management of the deep sea port announced that construction work which is now at 95.65 percent completion stage was on course for completion as scheduled.
