LAST year, I went for surgery to increase the size of my breasts. Unfortunately, two weeks ago, both breasts started oozing out some oily material which has made the breasts gone back to their original sizes. The doctor who did the operation said my body is allergic to the implant as such, the failed job. My friends want me to try another doctor for another attempt. Kindly advise me on what to do.

Although you didn’t state your age, I will advise that you forget the idea of another attempt at increasing your bust line. What you should do is to concentrate on how to heal the wound of the previous surgery and live with your naturally endowed breasts.
Fasting with Diabetes
I am a 50-year-old diabetic currently using oral medications to manage my diabetes. Recently my church directed all church members to proceed on a 10 -day fasting period. Kindly advise me on whether or not I can join in the fast.
— Simeon (by SMS)
As a diabetic on oral medications, fasting may expose you to sudden changes in your blood sugar levels which may adversely affect your health. In view of this, I will not advise that you should fast in your condition. Luckily, most religions have already exempted those who are sick from fasting.
Am I still pregnant?
I missed my periods last month and so went for a pregnancy test which confirmed that I was pregnant. Unfortunately, I started bleeding a few days after the pregnancy test so I went back for another test which again confirmed that I was pregnant. However, an ultrasound that I did around the same time showed an empty uterus. I am confused. Am I still pregnant?
— Adelaide (by SMS)
In view of the result of the Ultrasound examination, you are not likely to be pregnant. Your second positive pregnancy test could be as a result of the presence of the pregnancy hormone which usually takes a while to clear from your blood. My advice will be to wait for another two weeks and then repeat both the Pregnancy Test and the Ultrasound examination. The results of these tests will reveal your correct pregnancy status.
I have red eyes
I woke up two days ago to notice that both eyes had suddenly become bloodshot. Kindly let me know what could be the cause of this.
— Ibrahim (by SMS)
Blood shot eyes usually are caused by sudden high blood pressure, allergy, eye fatigue, over-wearing contact lenses or common eye infections. Irritants like pollen, dust, perfume, smoke, and mould are usually responsible for aggravating our eyes and causing them to become bloodshot. Another common cause of bloodshoteyes is dryness. However, redness of the eye sometimes can signal a more serious eye condition or disease, such as uveitis or glaucoma. A red eye is usually nothingto worry about and often gets better on its own. It is important however to have your Blood Pressure checked. Your doctor will recommend some eye drops to hasten its improvement and also advise you on what to do if the condition gets more serious.
Body weakness and too much sleep
I have been feeling like sleeping all the time for the past few weeks while my body is weak. Kindly let me know what to do. I am a 40- year old teacher.
— Blessing (by SMS)
When you combine body weakness with excessive sleeping (Narcolepsy), you have to look into the possibilities of an underlying problem such as Depression, Diabetes among other likely ailments. In addition, issues such as poor night sleep, excessive use of drugs, alcohol, or cigarette use, lack of physical activity, obesity should also be investigated. In addition, you should stay away from alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine. It will also be useful to maintain a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and try relaxation techniques such as hot baths and massage. If these do not work, kindly see a Medical Doctor who will arrange a thorough Physical examination and Laboratory investigations to get to the root of your problem.
What is missed abortion?
When I noticed that my 4 -month old pregnancy was not growing, I visited my doctor who ordered for an Ultrasound examination. The result was that my baby had died in my womb. The doctor called it ‘Missed Abortion’. Kindly let me know what caused this.
— Ayisat (by SMS)
By definition, a missed abortion (missed miscarriage) is an in utero death of the embryo or foetus before the 20th week of gestation with retained conception products. Missed abortions may also be referred to as blighted ovum or an anembryonic pregnancy. Causes of missed abortion generally are the same as those causing spontaneous abortion or early pregnancy failure. Once the doctor arranges for an evacuation, then you can try getting pregnant again after resting for some months.
Vibration in my right ear
I have been feeling some vibration sensation in my right ear since a week now. The sensation has grown louder in the past few days. Kindly let me know what to do about it. I am 35 -year old Civil Servant
—- Beauty (by SMS)
Vibration or ringing sensations in the ears are called Tinnitus. The most likely cause of the Tinnitus should be excess of Earwax. This is usually due to the effect of a dusty environment. Too much earwax can cause a build-up of pressure on the inner ear, leading to Tinnitus. A doctor or audiologist can easily remove this excess ear wax and relieve the condition.
My fractured elbow
I recently fractured my left elbow while playing football. Since I could not afford the Bill demanded by the hospital, my parents arranged that I should visit a traditional Bone Setter. I am afraid if he will do a good job. Kindly advise me on what to do. I am 20 years of age.
— Lekan (by SMS)
Fractures in young people especially those affecting the elbow could be complicated. It is for this reason that such fractures need to be carefully and professionally handled so as not to adversely affect the proper use of the elbow. For this reason, I will not encourage your use of a traditional bone setter. Every effort should be made by your parents to access a proper modern medical care for an effective and smooth recovery.
