Premier League champions Manchester City and last season’s Carabao Cup losing finalists Chelsea will play each other in the highest profile tie of the third round of the competition at the Etihad Stadium.
The third round draw was made tonight moments after the conclusion of the second round clashes.
Apart from the heavyweight encounter between City and Chelsea, there are six other all-Premier League ties in the third round.
Manchester United will host Aston Villa, Arsenal will welcome Brighton, while Nottingham Forest, the club of Super Eagles pair Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis, will face Tottenham Hotspur at home.
Newcastle United and Crystal Palace will battle at St James’s Park, but holders Liverpool will be home to third-tier Derby County.
Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and his compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho and their Leicester City teammates will be home to lower league side Newport Country, with Joe Aribo’s Southampton welcoming Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.
The third-round ties will be held from November 8 to November 10.
