Eight players and five coaches have been nominated for the August Premier League Player and Manager of the Month awards.
The nominees were revealed today by the Premier League, while the winners will be announced next week after votes from the public and a panel of football experts have been collated.
Among the nominees for Player of the Month award are Brighton’s Pascal Gross, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, as well as Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard.
The others are Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, Newcastle United’s Nick Pope, Crystal Palace’s Wilfred Zaha and Leeds United’s Rodrigo Moreno.
Among the nominees, Haaland had the most goal contributions with nine goals and one assist in five matches, followed by Jesus who scored three and assisted three as Arsenal won all five matches during the month under review.
Gross netted thrice and added one assist to inspire Brighton to three wins and one draw, while Mitrovic scored five goals for promoted Fulham in their two wins and two draws.
Goalkeeper Pope kept two clean sheets and made 19 saves for Newcastle, while Zaha and Rodrigo scored four goals each for Crystal Palace and Leeds United respectively.
Odegaard scored three goals for Arsenal in August but had no assists.
In the Manager of the Month category, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola is nominated along with Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, Tottenham Hotspur’s Antonio Conte, Fulham’s Marco Silva and Brighton’s Graham Potter, who is on the verge of joining Chelsea as replacement for Thomas Tuchel.
Arteta has the best record among the nominees having led Arsenal to their best-ever start to a Premier League season with five wins out of five games in August, with his former boss Guardiola next with four wins and a draw in five games for Manchester City.
Potter steered Brighton to three wins and a draw, while Conte earned three wins and two draws for Tottenham. Silva led Fulham to two wins and two draws.
