Victor Osimhen could be out of action for at least a month following the injury he sustained during Napoli’s UEFA Champions League fixture against Liverpool on Wednesday night.
The Super Eagles striker went off injured in the 41st minute after hitting the post and seeing his penalty saved in Napoli’s 4-1 win over Liverpool at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Napoli today announced that Osimhen had a second-degree lesion in his right femoral bicep, which will keep him out for weeks.
The Nigeria international has already begun his recovery, according to Napoli, and he will not return to action before the September break, meaning he will not be available for the friendly between the Super Eagles and Algeria scheduled for September 27 in Oran.
The 23-year-old will also miss matches against Spezia, Rangers and AC Milan in the Serie A and Champions League.
According to Calciomercato.com, it usually takes four to five weeks to recover from these injuries, so Osimhen could miss even more matches if he is out until mid-October.
Napoli host Torino after the international break at the beginning of October and face Ajax twice in a week with the away Serie A fixture against Cremonese between the two European games.
Osimhen should be back in the home Serie A clash against Bologna on October 16 or away at Roma the following weekend, on October 23.
The striker was out of action for two months last season after sustaining a head injury and undergoing surgery, which forced him to sit out the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon in January.
