THE senator representing Anambra South reportedly escaped assassination late afternoon today as some unknown gunmen attacked his convoy at Enugwu Ukwu in Njikoka local government area.
It was gathered that some of his police escorts and aides were killed in the attack, while the Young Peoples Party, YPP senator, himself escaped as his vehicle was said to have been bullet-ridden.
Heavily armed men were said to have opened fire on his convoy from all directions, but the Senator .
escaped “because he was inside his bullet-proof Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV),” said an eyewitness who spoke to reporters.
“Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy came under attack in Enugwu Ukwu this evening. He was ambushed by heavily armed men who opened fire on his convoy. Some of his aides were killed, including some police officers,” said the witness.
The witness added, “I was driving up to that spot from the link road to the express when some people in a shop shouted at me and asked me to turn back and take another road, which I did.”
An aide to the Senator told reporters, “The Senator is receiving medical attention presently but I can tell you that it was an assassination attempt. The assassins came from all sides. Look at the way these people (aides and security agents) were shot dead in a gruesome manner. This is really pathetic”.
