The Electoral Committee for the 2022 elections has given clearance to Seyi Akinwunmi, Shehu Dikko, Idah Peterside, Aisha Falode, Daniel Amokachi and others to contest for positions in the executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation.
The NFF elections are scheduled for September 30 in Benin City, Edo State.
Current 1st vice-president Akinwunmi, current 2nd vice-president Dikko and ex-international Peterside are running for president, while Falode and former Super Eagles striker Amokachi are seeking seats in the powerful executive committee.
In all, there are 11 contestants cleared for the presidential race, including current Chairman of Chairmen Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, current member of the board Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, immediate past General Secretary Musa Amadu and Head of Safety and Security of the Confederation of African Football Dr. Christian Emeruwa.
Also cleared for the No.1 position in Nigerian football are former NFF 1st Vice President Amanze Uchegbulam, Chairman of the FCT Football Association Adam Mouktar Mohammed, former Chairman of Kano Pillars FC Alhaji Abba Abdullahi Yola and UK-based David-Buhari Doherty.
The NFF clarified today that Paul Yusuf from Plateau State was disqualified as a result of invalid nomination, with Marcellinus Anyanwu from Imo State also out of the race.
Three candidates have been given the green light to contest for the position of 1st vice-president. They are current board members Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu and Senator Obinna Ogba, as well as Chinedu Okoye.
Current board member Alhaji Yusuf Ahmed ‘Fresh’ was the only one who obtained the form for the position of Chairman of Chairmen, and he has been cleared.
Contesting for seats on the Executive Committee from the South East are Emeka Inyama (Abia State), ex-international Chikelue Iloenyosi (Anambra State), another ex-international Karibe Ojigwe (Abia State), Jude Obikwelu (Anambra State) and Sir Emmanuel Ochiagha (Imo State).
For North Central there are Alhaji Mohammed Alkali (Nasarawa State), Margaret Icheen (Benue State), Idris Abdullahi Musa (Kwara State), Amokachi (Benue State) and another ex-international Benedict Akwuegbu (Plateau State).
Falode, who is a current board member, tops the list of candidates from the South South region, with Chief Kenneth Nwaomucha (Delta State), Gregory Abang (Cross River State), Roland Abu Omomoh (Edo State), Poubeni Ogun (Bayelsa State), Jarret Tenebe (Edo State) and Essien Udofot (Akwa Ibom State) also vying for seats from that zone.
Current board member Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi leads the list of contestants for seats from the South West, with Otunba Sunday Dele-Ajayi (Ondo State), Alhaji Olawale Gafar Liameed (Lagos State), Afolabi Taiwo Olugbenga (Osun State), Ayodeji Adegbenro (Ondo State) and Pelumi Olajengbesi also in the race. Ayodeji Ogunjobi (Osun State) was disqualified for not providing evidence of tax payment.
North East candidates are Alhaji Babagana Kalli (Borno State), Sajo Mohammed (Adamawa State) and Timothy Henman Magaji (Taraba State).
Current board member Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa (Kano State) is the only candidate from the North West.
