US: Electric aircraft ready in November, says NASA

THE National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is set to launch an electric aircraft, Dr. Katherine Calvin, the chief scientist and senior climate advisor for NASA, has said.

The first flight of the X-57 is to take place in November 2022.

Dr Calvin spoke today at a briefing organised by the Foreign Press Centers in Washington. The NASA X-57 Maxwell is an experimental aircraft intended to demonstrate the technology to reduce fuel use, emissions, and noise.

Facts from NASA indicate that the experiment involves replacing the wings on a twin-engined Italian-built Tecnam P2006T, which was a conventional four-seater light aircraft.  Each of its Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP) wings contains electrically driven propellers.
