Ndidi fumbles, Son stars as Spurs hand Leicester sixth straight defeat

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was one of Leicester City’s poor performers tonight as Tottenham Hotspur defeated the Foxes 6-2, with Son Heung-min scoring a hat-trick.

Ndidi and his midfield partners were overrun by the hosts, and the Nigeria international played a big part in one of the goals against his side.

The holding midfielder was robbed of the ball two minutes into the second half by Rodrigo Bentancur, who went on to beat goalkeeper Danny Ward in a one-on-one situation.

The score was 2-2 before Ndidi’s error, and Leicester City fell apart afterwards.

Youri Tieleman’s twice-taken penalty had given Leicester City the lead in the sixth minute as they sought to avoid a sixth straight defeat.

Tottenham Hotspur were back level just two minutes later through Harry Kane and led for the first time in the 21st minute when Eric Dier struck.

Leicester made it 2-2 with James Maddison’s superb 41st minute goal and went into the break in high spirits.

However, it all went downhill after Ndidi’s error, as substitute Son scored a 13-minute hat-trick.

The Korea forward replaced Richarlison just before the hour mark and scored in the 73rd, 84th and 86th minutes to take Spurs to second in the table, level on points with leaders Manchester City.

Son is the first Tottenham player to score a Premier League hat-trick as a substitute, and the first overall in the competition since Steven Naismith against Chelsea in September 2015, according to Opta statistics.

Leicester, meanwhile, remain at the bottom of the table, still winless despite having led in four of their seven matches so far.

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho was in action for the final 16 minutes of the game.
