Haaland, Foden hit hat-tricks as City outclass United in Manchester derby

Erling Haaland and Phil Foden scored three goals each today, powering Manchester City to a 6-3 win over Manchester United in a Premier League goal-fest at the Etihad Stadium.

The result ended Manchester United’s sequence of four straight Premier League wins, as Haaland took his goals tally to an incredible 14 goals in eight games.

City stated brightly and were rewarded when Foden scored in the eighth minute, and Haaland was in on the act towards the end of the first half.

The Norway striker netted twice in three minutes to make it 3-0, first heading home from a corner and then poking in a brilliant cross from the excellent Kevin De Bruyne.

Haaland then turned provider one minute before half-time, setting up Foden to make it 4-0.

United made a change at the break, bringing on Luke Shaw for Tyler Malacia, and they pulled one goal back through Antony, who unleashed a superb shot into the top corner in the 56th minute.

The goal stung City back into action and they added two more goals, with Haaland completing his hat-trick in the 64th minute and Foden completing his eight minutes later.

With his third goal, Haaland became the first player in Premier League history to score a hat-trick in three successive home games and the quickest ever to reach three trebles.

Substitute Anthony Martial put a bit of respectability in the scoreline for United, scoring from close range in the 84th minute and converting a penalty in added time.

City moved to within one point of leaders Arsenal, while United are sixth.
