Match winner Lookman eyes historic Serie A glory with Atalanta

Ademola Lookman is hoping Atalanta can go all the way and win their first-ever Serie A title after a strong start to the season.

The Nigeria international scored the only goal on Sunday in a 1-0 win over Fiorentina to take Atalanta to second place in the Italian top flight, level on points with Victor Osimhen’s Napoli.

The goal was Lookman’s second since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig this summer, but his first in front of his new club’s home fans.

He relished the feeling it brought.

“It was a beautiful win, a great performance and we believed in it until the end,” the Super Eagles forward said.

“I’m happy for my first goal in front of our fans, I’ve been waiting for it for a long time.”

Atalanta stumbled last season and finished a lowly eighth, but they are unbeaten in eight games this term and Lookman is looking to break limits both individually and with the club.

“I just want to see from match to match where we can go, I haven’t set myself any goals, I want to get as far as possible with Atalanta,” the 24-year-old added.

Lookman has contributed two goals and one assist to Atalanta’s quest, having featured in all eight Serie A fixtures, starting four.
