RIVERS: Abang wins PDP Reps primary re-run

THE PDP House of Representatives rerun primary election which took place yesterday to choose its nominee for the Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency has been declared won by Pius Abang.

Abang defeated Mr. Attah Ochinke, chairman of the Cross River State branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, with a vote total of 37 to 30.

Ike Ogbogu, the contest’s returning officer, announced the outcome of the rerun that was held in the Ikom Local Government Area while urging the contestants to accept the outcome in good faith.

Shortly after he was officially proclaimed the victor, Abang made a commitment to work extremely hard to guarantee that he defeats other candidates preparing to run for the Reps seat with the PDP in 2023.

“I shall carry out my campaign with dignity. My greatest appeal is that all party men should join hands with me to ensure that a PDP candidate emerges the winner in the Reps election coming up in 2023,” he said.

He promised to offer the people quality representation so they could live comfortably.

After Pius Abang lost the first primary to Ochinke, Abang appealed the decision and went before the Federal High Court, which was presided over by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu. Ojukwu declared the election results invalid, alleging a violation of the Electoral Act.

To let the PDP to choose a candidate for the Reps race, she ordered that the primary be rerun.
