THE Sokoto Book and Arts Festival 2022, also known as Sobafest, will return to Sokoto, Nigeria from November 4 – 6, 2022. The festival theme is “A Returning”.
The Sokoto Book and Arts Festival was first hosted in Sokoto Nigeria in 2021 with the collaboration of organisations like Book O’clock Review, Poetry Club UDUS, and Caliphate Arts and Literary Forum. The next edition of the well-received event is set to return to the northwestern town in November. Themed “A Returning”, it hopes to spark conversations that would spur a need for artists in the state to make a return to arts, to reconnect to the artistic nature of the state and northern Nigeria, and to fill in the vacuum that years of neglect has created. The lineup includes a series of virtual and in-person activities like book chats, panel discussions, art exhibitions, film screenings, plays, poetry, music and dance performances, and much more.
Expected guests range from writers to poets to publishers to policymakers to educators to people in tech. Some of these guests include Arc. Hadiza Isma El-Rufai, the First Lady of Kaduna state and Publisher of Almara Books, Umar Abubakar Sidi, author of Like Butterflies Scattered About by Art Rascals, TJ Benson, author of People Live Here, Saddiq Dzukogi, author of Your Crib, My Qibla, Kukogho Iruesiri Samson, author of Devil’s Pawn, Dr. Nasir Daniya, DG ICT Directorate Sokoto, Dr. Mansur Isa Buhari, Abdulrahman Liman, King Skot, Barr. Hafsat Dange, Salihu Mahe, author of How To View The World From A Glass Prism, and many more.
