Super Eagles defenders William Troost-Ekong and Ola Aina were on target for the first time this season as their clubs won in England and Italy today.
Troost-Ekong scored one of the goals in Watford’s 4-0 win over Luton Town in the Championship, while Aina opened the scoring as mid-table Torino snatched an away win over high-flying Udinese in Serie A.
Centre-back Troost-Ekong was making his fourth consecutive start under Slaven Bilic after barely featuring under former manager Rob Edwards, and the Nigeria international rewarded the new coach’s faith with the third goal of today’s win.
The 29-year-old has now made six appearances as Watford seek a quick return to the Premier League.
Troost-Ekong’s compatriot Samuel Kalu, who is getting back to full fitness after a lengthy injury lay-off, came on for the last five minutes and Maduka Okoye was an unused substitute.
In Italy, Aina also scored his first goal of the season to steer Torino up to ninth place in the table.
The wing-back struck in the 14th minute of the 2-1 win over Udinese, who dropped to sixth spot.
Nigerian forward Isaac Success was in Udinese’s starting line-up, and he lasted for 65 minutes.
