Mourinho wants Abraham, other Roma strikers to emulate Osimhen

Jose Mourinho has told his AS Roma forwards, led by Tammy Abraham, to be more clinical in front of goal like Victor Osimhen after their clash against Napoli.

Super Eagles striker Osimhen scored the only goal of the match last night as Napoli defeated Roma 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome to extend their lead at the top of the Serie A table to four points.

While Osimhen scored with a brilliant volley from an acute angle to give the more positive Napoli side a fully deserved victory, Roma had their worst attacking performance in seven years.

The largely defensive hosts struggled to match the intensity of Luciano Spalletti’s side, and Mourinho was left frustrated on the sidelines as the vibrant visitors overpowered his side and took all three points.

Roma started with England striker with Nigerian heritage Abraham as the centre forward and replaced him with Andrea Belotti in the 63rd minute, but there was little difference in the blunt attack.

“We have to be more decisive upfront, what lodges into the statistics are the shots on goal,” Mourinho told DAZN after the match, before hailing Osimhen’s impact.

“Then I also look at the half opportunities, those that you have to transform into opportunities as Osimhen did.”

Mourinho brought on Stephen El Shaarawy and Eldor Shomurodov as he attempted to add a cutting edge to the attack but it was Napoli who looked like adding to their lead.

Roma failed to have a single shot on target in the encounter, the first time that has happened since they failed to register a shot on target in December 2015 in a 0-0 draw against the same Napoli.

Nigeria international Osimhen has been in fine form since returning from a five-week injury lay-off, scoring in each of his three games.
