2023: Nigeria can overcome any challenge with a competent president –Gov Emmanuel

THE governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has said that Nigeria’s issues might be surmountable if a capable leader is elected president in 2023.

Speaking today in Uyo at the 2022 national conference hosted by the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria under the theme “Nation Building in Challenging Times,” Emmanuel noted that Nigeria needed a capable leader to take the country out of its current predicament.

The governor urged Nigerians to elect a leader who can help the country out of its current predicament, saying that the country does not need an egocentric person or someone who has just vowed to win the presidency at any costs.

The governor said, “We are in challenging times, not only in Nigeria but across the globe. Countries are trying to adjust and readjust, so many things are changing overnight.

“Issues confronting Nigeria are very surmountable. It would always take a leader to emerge somehow, somewhere, and things could change, and I believe in Nigeria. We know that this thing could change if in 2023, a leader who has the love for the people, who know what to do, an action to take, and what to actually carry out, emerges. That is all that we need, and this situation can be remedied.

“It would be a tale of woes if, in 2023, we don’t even know we are in challenging times as a country. We are looking for a leader, not someone who is on self-aggrandisement, not somebody that has sworn that when I come to the earth, I must be a president before I die.”

The former Attorney General of the Federation and event chairman Chief Kanu Agabi also spoke, saying that the gathering of former deputy governors from all over Nigeria was a symbol of optimism for the nation as they were coming together to propose solutions to the issues the nation was currently facing.

Agabi noted that Nigeria needed a fundamental shift and that the meeting was convened at a crucial time when fraud and corruption had infected every aspect of the nation.

The former AG urged Nigerians to act as change agents and to come together, noting that while the country will always face challenges, cooperation would enable it to overcome every challenge.
