The Flamingos have been eliminated from the India 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after a penalty shootout defeat to Colombia in Goa today.
The semi-final clash went straight to penalties after full-time ended 0-0, and the Colombians won 6-5.
Nigeria were one penalty kick from winning but Omamuzo Edafe failed to convert her team’s fifth as scores stood at 4-4.
The shootout then went into sudden death, with Colombia scoring their two kicks while Comfort Folorunsho missed for the Flamingos.
The Colombians would feel they deserved their spot in the final after a dominant display and creating the better opportunities.
Goalkeeper Faith Omilana and the defence were mostly responsible for keeping the Flamingos in the game, as they repeatedly thwarted the dangerous South Americans.
The Flamingos will have a shot at a medal when they play for bronze in the third-place match on Sunday against the losers of the second semi-final between Spain and Germany.
