UCL: Napoli’s Spalletti could rest Osimhen for Rangers clash

Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has suggested that he will make changes to freshen up his squad when they face Rangers tonight in the UEFA Champions League at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

The Italian side are on top of Group A and have already qualified for the round of 16 after winning all of their first four matches in the competition.

One of the players Spalletti could give a breather is Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen, who has played in all of Napoli’s three games and scored in all since he returned from a five-week injury lay-off.

Osimhen started Napoli’s Serie A fixture against AS Roma on Sunday and scored the only goal to maintain his side’s unbeaten run.

When the manager was asked if he would make changes to his squad for tonight’s fixture, he replied in the affirmative.

“I always choose the players to win the games. Then we have the possibility to have more players to field because I have a large squad,” Spalletti told his pre-match press conference.

“We played on Sunday and some men have not yet fully recovered after such an intense match. So we will change something by inserting three or four fresh elements.

“So far we can well say that we have reached a good level because we have always expressed quality in every race played. But it is clear that we are in October.

“What becomes fundamental is to acquire continuity and find a way to further grow in terms of performance. This requires us to always look for new solutions, involve everyone and add piece by piece along the way.”

A win tonight will leave Napoli on the verge of finishing on top of the group, with them needing only to avoid defeat at Anfield on the final matchday next week.

“In all the matches we will have to try to repeat ourselves, expressing all our qualities to go fast,” he added.

“Winning against Rangers could prove to be fundamental to go to Liverpool with a good advantage and be able to aim for the first place in the group.”

Napoli have 12 points to Liverpool’s nine, while Ajax are third with three points and Rangers no points.
