Celebrities who walked out of their marriages without drama

ONE question that continues to beg for answers is; why do most celebrities succeed at everything else they do except love and marriage? 

They work their heads off to build a career or name for themselves, yet they fail at keeping their relationship working. Just a few days ago, Kunle Afod and his wife, Desola parted ways citing infidelity as the reasons behind their marriage failure.

Naija Times has taken out time to list out top Nigerian celebrities, especially in Nollywood who walked out of their marriages without drama. These ones quietly announced their breakup on social media and moved on…

Kunle Afod and Desola

Nollywood actor, Kunle Iyiola Afod, better known as Kunle Afod and his wife Desola split up a few days ago. Desola posted a brief statement on her Instagram page announcing the news on Tuesday, October 25. She wrote, “The good news you wanna hear. I left Kunle Afod.” It was gathered that the 40-year-old mother of 4 had earlier unfollowed him on Instagram. Earlier in the week, Kunle’s birthday was celebrated by Desola and she went further to pray for him. She wrote, “Happy Birthday Daddy Omiayo, Desire, Imodola, Yiyenitemi,” in honor of the actor. God’s blessings upon you today and always.

Simi Esiri and Dr Sid

Simi and Dr Sid

On Sunday, January 26, 2020, Simi announced her separation from her husband and music star, Dr Sid, also known as Sidney Esiri. The couple got engaged back in 2013 and tied the knot in 2014. Also, their first child was welcomed in 2015 and the second in 2018. The editor-in-chief of Schick Magazine announced their split with a post on her Instagram while discrediting claims that accused her of domestic violence, and that their main priority now will be “focused on working together as co-parents”. Dr Sid didn’t release any statement from his end and remained silent till date.

Damilola Adegbite and Chris Attoh

After months of speculation by fans and denials by the couple, Ghanaian actor Chris Attoh in 2017 confirmed his divorce to Nigerian actress Damilola Adegbite. In an interview with Bellanaija, Chris Attoh said: “Dami is a wonderful woman and an amazing mother. Despite our differences, she and I will always be friends. So more than anything we will find ways to continue to make sure that Bryan can still have a balanced upbringing filled with love and support. Both our families have been and are still very supportive in helping us take care of our son Brian when we can’t be there due to work.” The couple welcomed their son, Bryan Nii Attoh, on September 5, 2015. Five months after his birth, the couple had an exclusive wedding on Valentine’s day in 2015.

Blossom Chukwujekwu and Maureen Esisi 

Nollywood actor, Blossom Chukwujekwu and his ex-wife, Maureen Esisi got married in 2015 and the union only lasted for four years. Maureen in 2020 revealed that she got to know that her union had packed up through social media. She took to her Instagram page to reveal how her father broke the news of her crashed marriage to her. According to Esisi, she was the last person to know her marriage had crashed and wondered how they got to that state. She, however, added that she was not the perfect partner but was the actor’s best. Although the talented actor took another shot at marriage by marrying Winifred Akhuemokhan, he never spoke about his former union or reasons they parted ways.

Funke Akindele and JJC

In June 2022, Abdulrasheed Bello, better known as JJC Skillz, confirmed that his marriage with Nollywood actress Funke Akindele had ended. Six years after their marriage and several rumours of separation, Mr Bello finally confirmed their divorce on social media. The music producer and filmmaker revealed this on his Instagram page. However, on her part, Funke Akindele didn’t make any official statement about the news of their separation, just as she has ignored several speculations regarding their troubled union.

Ini Edo’s marriage to Philips Ehiagwina quietly collapsed in 2014.  The widely speculated reason for their divorce was the issue of infidelity. The couple who their romance started in 2008 parted ways amicably without much media controversies. Ini Edo and Philips Ehiagwina union didn’t produce any kid. While the actress is still single, her ex-husband has remarried twice.

Mofe Duncan and Jessica Kakkad 

Nollywood actor Mofe Duncan and Jessica got married on August 22, 2015 in Lagos. However in 2019, Mofe Duncan confirmed that his marriage to his wife, has ended. The 37-year-old movie star made the confirmation in a statement posted on Instagram. “My marriage has been over for over a year as I have remained cordial with both families and would continue to remain cordial as God guides me,” he wrote in parts. The couple had an issue in 2016 when a leaked chat showed the actor flirting with a lady identified as Zainab. This was barely a year after their marriage. The couple had no kids before their union went south.

Osas Ighodaro and Gbenro Ajibade

Nollywood actors Osas Ighodaro and Gbenro Ajibade started dating after first meeting as co-stars of M-Net‘s soap opera, Tinsel. Then they got engaged in August 2014 in the US and had a glamorous wedding in 2015. However, in 2019 Gbenro Ajibade announced that his marriage with Osas Ighodaro is over.  The father of one also disclosed that he’s still friends with his ex-wife, even though their union didn’t work out. Meanwhile, Osas Ighodaro on her part didn’t open up on the main reasons her marriage didn’t work out. She just allowed time heal her wounds.

Julius Agwu, a renowned and successful Nigerian stand-up comedian got married to Ibiere in 2008. But the marriage managed to survive for 14 years with two beautiful kids. The comedian claimed Ibiere abandoned her matrimonial home because of his ill-health. Agwu was diagnosed with a brain tumour a few years ago. Agwu in an interview noted that his sickness had taught him a lot of lessons. He said, “I have learnt a lot about life. I don’t want to say some things but the fact is that I have grown. Life has taught me that it is important to strategise.”

Etinosa Idemudia and Igbrosa

Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia’s marriage to Benin-based lawyer, Ighrosa is the most shortest-lived on this list. The former couple tied the knot in September 2020 and welcomed their first daughter on Christmas Day, the same year. The movie star had planned to keep the news of her marriage crash away from the prying eyes of the public but the press had other plans.  In May 2021, she called out a blogger for breaking the news about her marriage collapse. Her husband on his part didn’t react to the infidelity allegations leveled against him by the actress.
