SOKOTO: Police detain man found with 101 PVCs

THE State Police Command has detained Nasiru Idris of Sabon Birni Local Government Area after he was found in possession of 101 permanent voter cards (PVCs).

The commissioner of police, Hussain Gumel, told reporters today that the suspect was taken into custody on October 10 at Sabon Birni as a result of reliable information.

The suspect, he said, was unable to explain where he obtained the PVCs.

Because we were unable to locate the legitimate owners of the PVCs, the commissioner said, “it is anticipated that owners of these cards are not only from Sabon Birni local government but may be from other regions of the state.”

He however urged members of the public, particularly those whose cards were missing or misplaced, to visit the command center and check.

The CP stated that within a month, the police would return all of the unclaimed cards to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Meanwhile, the command also honored six freshly promoted officers.
