Liverpool joined the clubs in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 with a 3-0 victory over Ajax in Amsterdam last night.
Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliot struck for the English side as they sealed their place in the knockout rounds along with Napoli in Group A.
The result means Ajax can only finish third or fourth, leaving them to battle with Rangers for a Europa League spot.
Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey was in action for 90 minutes as the Dutch champions were comprehensively outscored by Liverpool.
Bassey’s compatriot Victor Osimhen was not needed by Napoli tonight and he was an unused substitute as the Italian side beat Rangers 3-0 in Naples.
Giovanni Simeone struck twice and Leo Ostigard added the third as Napoli became the first Italian team ever to score 20 goals in the five group stage matches in the Champions League.
In Group B, Porto’s win earlier in the evening ended Leverkusen’s last-16 hopes and left Atleti needing a win to keep alive their aspirations.
The visitors led twice in Madrid with Moussa Diaby and Callum Hudson-Odoi both on target, but Atleti battled back each time through Yannick Carrasco and substitute Rodrigo de Paul.
In a dramatic twist, Atletico were awarded a penalty by VAR after the full-time whistle which Carrasco took and Lukas Hradecky saved before Saúl Ñíguez headed the rebound against the bar.
The draw secured Porto’s spot in the round of 16 along with Club Brugge, with Atletico and Leverkusen left to fight for third place.
This is only the third time in 13 seasons Atletico have failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
In Group C, Bayern Munich compounded already eliminated Barcelona’s woes by thrashing them 3-0 at Camp Nou with goals from Sadio Mane, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Benjamin Pavard.
Bayern have now won their last six Champions League matches against Barcelona, keeping clean sheets in the last four.
Group D is still wide open with all four teams able to qualify after Tottenham Hotspur and Sporting Lisbon drew 1-1 in London and Eintracht Frankfurt beat Marseille 2-1 in Germany.
