US: Amala, gbegiri get special treatment in Houston

IBADAN, the home of Nigeria’s premier University and first television station in Africa, is set to dazzle in Houston, Texas.

Today, indigenes of this city famed for its rusted roofs will troop to Katy Mills Parkway for the Amala Day.

The event is organised by the Ibadan Descendants Union Houston.

Guests are expected to wear as-ebi and dress to represent the Yoruba culture.

The meal of the day will be hot amala served with well-made ewedu, gbegiri, assorted meats and more.

Guests will only be able to access the event with the ankara aso-ebi, which is being sold at designated points in Houston, the city with the highest population of Nigerians in America.

Its President, Abiola Iyiola, said the event would be fun-filled with music and other side attractions.
