Senegal’s Sadio Mane ruled out of Qatar 2022 World Cup

Sadio Mane will not be representing Senegal at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, which kicks off on November 20, according to reports.

The Bayern Munich forward sustained an injury last night and was taken off after just 20 minutes into the 6-1 Bundesliga victory over Werder Bremen.

Mane tried to shake off the injury and return to the pitch, but he could not and left down the tunnel in obvious distress.

While there is no official word yet from Senegal, French outlet L’Equipe reported today that the 30-year-old will not be fit for the global showpiece.

Bayern Munich assistant coach Dino Toppmoller said last night that Mane took a knock to his leg, which caused a slight nerve pinch.

Toppmoller believed it was not too serious, but the prognosis is now that the Teranga Lions talisman will not be playing in Qatar.

Mane, who has scored 33 times in 92 appearances for Senegal, has played 23 matches for Bayern Munich since joining them from Liverpool in August, contributing 11 goals and four assists.

African champions Senegal are in Group A with Ecuador, The Netherlands and hosts Qatar.

Their opening game is against The Netherlands in Doha on November 21.
