ANAMBRA: 15 arrested over police, gang clash

SECURITY personnels were involved in a gun duel for nearly an hour with a gang of armed guys who were allegedly part of a cult.

It was learned that the event took place late on Saturday in the Aguleri community of Anambra East Local Government Area, Anambra state.

Aguleri is the hometown of the immediate past governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano.

According to reports, the armed guys attacked the neighborhood and opened fire before police officers arrived and the shooting continued between both sides.

Although the cause of the invasion could not be determined, local reports claim that the youths were on their way to a local police station when they were repelled by police officers.

Although no one was killed, sources reveal that some police officers and armed gang members were hurt during the shootings.

According to police sources, no less than 15 persons have so far been detained and placed under arrest.

Toochukwu Ikenga, a spokesman for the state police, confirmed the event and stated that it had been resolved.
