Four traditional Nigeria Professional Football League clubs Enyimba, Rangers, 3SC and Bendel Insurance, are set to take part in a pre-season tournament scheduled for December 1 to December 4 in Lagos.
The organisers said today that the tournament has a prize of N100 million at stake.
The tournament is sponsored by Tingo Media and will be held at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex, formerly known as Onikan Stadium, on Lagos Island.
Head of Operations of the Interim Management Committee of the NPFL, Davidson Owumi, explained that the tournament is a dress rehearsal ahead of the 2022/23 top flight season.
“This is a tip of the iceberg of what the IMC has in store for Nigerians in the league in the coming season,” Owumi said.
“The tournament is the first of its kind in Nigeria and the four teams will play out for the big money in Lagos.
“I’m happy because the IMC has been able to put the tournament together and this is a prelude of what will happen when the league eventually begins.
“Everything has been put in place and Nigerians will see the best of everything in this tournament.
“We are working in tandem with the organisers to ensure everything is in place to make the tournament a good one.”
Enyimba, Rangers, 3SC and Insurance will earn an appearance fee of N10m each in the four-day tournament.
While Enyimba, Rangers and 3SC were in the NPFL last season, Insurance just got promoted back to the elite division.
