The Super Falcons did not move up or down in the latest FIFA women’s ranking released today, staying in their position from October.
The Nigerian side remain in the 45th spot in the ranking with 1537 points, the same haul as two months ago.
The nine-time African champions are also still the No.1 ranked team on the continent, ahead of Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions South Africa, who are 54th in the world, the same position they held in October.
Cameroon (58th in the world), Ghana (59th in the world) and Cote d’Ivoire (65th in the world) complete Africa’s top five.
Equatorial Guinea, WAFCON runners-up Morocco, Tunisia and Zambia are sixth to 10th in Africa.
On the global stage, the United States of America remain the top-ranked team with 2078 points, followed closely by Germany who have just five points fewer.
Sweden, European champions England and runners-up France are the rest of the top five in the world ranking.
Canada, Spain, The Netherlands, Brazil and North Korea complete the top 10 in the world.
FIFA explained that 48 women’s internationals have been played since the last ranking in October, resulting in some significant changes, including Germany narrowing the gap with the USA, who have been No.1 since 2017.
The US Women’s National Team hit a rough patch recently, losing three of their last four matches, including a 2-1 defeat to the Germans.
Turkey (64th, plus 3) had the biggest boost in terms of points (plus 10.23) and Estonia (91st, plus 5) were the highest climbers when it came to places. No side suffered a bigger fall in places than Montenegro (96th, minus 5).
FIFA noted that 187 member associations featured in the December 2022 ranking, out of 211 in all, the highest number ever recorded at the end of a calendar year.
The next ranking is scheduled for March next year.
