KASTINA: 54 bandits, five officers killed in 2022 – CP

THE commissioner of police for Katsina State, Shehu Umar Nadada, has revealed that at least 54 bandits were neutralised in 2022, while five police personnel suffered injuries.

Nadada revealed this today during a news conference at the Command’s Katsina headquarters to wrap up the year.

“In the course of our campaign against banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other forms of criminality, 54 bandits were neutralized in various gun battles while five police officers have paid the supreme price in the year under review,” he said.

A total of 241 suspected bandits, kidnappers, and bandit informants were detained, he stated.

He added that 239 people had been charged with crimes and 16 suspects were the subject of ongoing investigations.

According to the CP, 727 cows, 370 sheep, and 172 goats were among the 1,092 domestic animals that were taken from the criminals.

According to him, 1,102 persons were detained in connection with 705 recorded cases, and 989 of those suspects were being prosecuted in the state’s various competent courts of law.

“Two hundred and sixty six suspects were arrested in 145 reported cases of rape and unnatural offences out of which 260 have been charged to court, while six suspects were undergoing investigation,” he added.

In the year under review, the CP said 14 AK-47 riffles, 2 locally-fabricated AK-47 rifles, 19 locally-made guns and 81 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition of AK-47 rifle were recovered.

The CP then thanked the IGP, Usman Baba, the Katsina State Government and all other stakeholders for their support that led to the reduction of criminal activities in the state.
