‘Both obtained their Ph.D. in Mass Communication at the University of Lagos today (Wednesday) proving that hard work and commitment to professionalism have their rewards as we often parrot’
ONE is a veteran, aged 82, who was once the Director of the Nigeria Institute of Journalism, NIJ. The other is much younger, but a seasoned reporter of the Arts and Media …actually a veteran in the making.
Both obtained their Ph.D. in Mass Communication at the University of Lagos today (Wednesday) proving that hard work and commitment to professionalism have their rewards as we often parrot. It was therefore good to join other distinguished professionals like Lanre Idowu; Niyi Obaremi; Dayo Ojo; Gbenga Adefaye; Demola Akinbola; Steve Nwosu; Olumide Iyanda; Victoria Ibanga; Yinka Oyegbile, etc, to celebrate them at the Officers Mess at Yaba.
Both obtained their Ph.D. in Mass Communication at the University of Lagos today (Wednesday) proving that hard work and commitment to professionalism have their rewards as we often parrot.
Now, the brain box behind it all is the Mighty Igor of Nigerian Journalism – T.O. or Taiwo Obe in case you are a messing journalist who does not know him.
In any case, those of you interested in fact-checking should ask T.O. why he chose a military Officer’s Mess for the rendezvous. But, if I can hazard a guess without messing, I will say it is to prove that the pen remains mightier than the sword. Thus, as Officers of the Pen, we can mess at the officers’ Mess of our erstwhile oppressors who at the peak of their barrack terrorism shut our media houses, clamped us into jail and compel some of us to seek refuge in exile.
The good thing is that our mess has outlived their mess, just as it will of our current traducers. Congratulations once again to Dr. Dayo Duyile, Ph.D., and Dr. Kabir Alabi Garba, Ph.D… Thanks for allowing me to capture how fresh PhD holders eat from the same plate. Not to worry, age aside, you are journalistic birds that flock together.
