Olise scores stunner as Palace hold Man United, Inter thrash Milan in Super Cup

MICHAEL Olise scored a stunning late free-kick for Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park tonight to end Manchester United’s winning streak.

The 1-1 draw denied Manchester United a victory that would have taken them temporarily to second place in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag’s side were on course for their 10th successive victory in all competitions after Bruno Fernandes gave them the lead two minutes before half-time when he finished superbly from Christian Eriksen’s pull-back.

But Olise, who has Nigerian heritage and is eligible for the Super Eagles, struck with a brilliant curling free-kick in stoppage time to earn a point for the hosts.

The draw took Manchester United above Newcastle United into third place but they are behind rivals Manchester City, who play at home to Tottenham tomorrow night.

For Palace, the result ended a run of three successive defeats in all competitions after their industrious second half display unsettled United.

United handed a debut to their loan signing Wout Weghorst, who lasted 69 minutes as the arrowhead of the attack, while Casemiro received a late yellow card that has ruled him out of Sunday’s clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Inter Milan trounced their city rivals AC Milan 3-0 in the Italian Super Cup.

Federico Dimarco and Edin Dzeko struck in the first half, with Lautaro Martinez adding the third goal 13 minutes from time as Inter Milan won the contest between the Serie A champions and Copa Italia holders at the King Fahd International Stadium.
