GOLDEN Eaglets head coach Nduka Ugbade has invited 48 players to camp in preparation for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The tournament will be held in Algeria from April 8 to April 30 with Nigeria one of the 12 qualified teams.
The Nigerian youngsters are to report to Abuja from today, with proper training to resume on Monday.
The invitees include a majority of the squad that won the WAFU B U-17 Championship in Cape Coast, Ghana last year.
The U-17 AFCON will also serve as the qualifying tournament for the FIFA U-17 World Cup billed for Peru in November.
The top four teams in Algeria will qualify to represent Africa in Peru from November 10 to December 2.
Nigeria are the most successful team in FIFA U-17 World Cup history, winning the tournament five times in China in 1985, Japan in 1993, Korea Republic in 2007, United Arab Emirates in 2013 and Chile in 2015.
The current head coach Ugbade was the captain of the Nigerian team that won the inaugural edition in 1985.
Players who have gone on from the tournament to become top senior Nigeria internationals include Ugbade himself, Jonathan Akpoborie, Victor Ikpeba, Nwankwo Kanu, Wilson Oruma, Celestine Babayaro, Mikel Obi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze.
