Gunmen kill three cops at Ebonyi-Enugu border checkpoint

GUNMEN reportedly shot and killed no fewer than three police officers yesterday night.

According to reports hoodlums were said to have carried out the incident, which happened at the border gate along the Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway, while driving two Sienna buses.

Reports also reveal that another police officer was wounded in the leg and he is receiving medical attention at a hospital in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.

The incident was confirmed today by the Ebonyi State Police Command spokesperson, SP Chris Anyanwu who said:

“The attack by gunmen at Ebonyi/Enugu boundary took place at about 18:08hrs.

“Three police personnel of Operation Safer Highway were fatally injured and later confirmed dead.

“The hoodlums operated in two sienna vehicles, drove into the checkpoint, and opened fire on the policemen.”
