Lookman scores in Atalanta win, closes in on Osimhen

ADEMOLA Lookman scored one of the goals tonight as Atalanta defeated Sampdoria 2-0 in their Serie A clash at the Gewiss Stadium.

The Super Eagles forward has now scored 12 goals in the Italian top flight this season, only one fewer than his international teammate Victor Osimhen, who leads the charts.

Lookman struck with a superb solo goal to seal the win for Atalanta, running through the Sampdoria defence before producing a composed finish 12 minutes into the second half.

The in-form Nigerian has scored five league goals in January, more than any player in Europe’s top five leagues.

Joakim Maehle gave Atalanta the lead three minutes to half-time as they moved above Lazio into fourth place in the table.

Earlier tonight in Serie A, David Okereke scored his fifth goal of the season but it was not enough to save Cremonese from a 2-1 home defeat to Inter Milan.

The Nigerian striker netted the opening goal with a superb shot in the 11th minute but Inter Milan responded with a Lautaro Martinez brace.

The Argentina forward equalised 10 minutes after Okereke’s fine finish and struck the winner in the 65th minute.

Cremonese, who brought on Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers in the second half, are yet to win in Serie A this season and are stuck in bottom spot, nine points from safety.

Inter Milan, on the other hand, are second, 10 points behind leaders Napoli.
