Obafemi Martins excited as son signs first pro contract with Monza

FORMER Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has expressed his pride in his son after the teenager signed his first professional football contract.

Kevin Maussi Martins is following in the footsteps of his famous father by signing a deal with Serie A club Monza to turn him into a professional football player.

The teenager had featured for AC Milan Youth and Inter Milan U-17s and U-18s before switching to Monza, who have now handed him his first contract as a professional.

“First professional contract for striker born in 2005 Kevin Maussi Martins, who made his debut with AC Monza in the Primavera (youth competition) 2-0 victory over Padova!✍️,” Monza announced on Twitter yesterday.

Maussi Martins, who can player as the main striker or behind the striker, was born when his father was playing in Italy with Inter Milan and turned 18 on January 31.

He has lived in Italy all his life and represented them at U-15 level three times, scoring one goal, although he can still play for the Super Eagles in future.

Martins, who also started his career as a teenager and played for Inter Milan between 2001 and 2006, was obviously happy for his son, as he congratulated him via Instagram.

“Congratulations my son, I’m so proud of you. I wish you a long and successful career at Monza,” wrote the 38-year-old former Inter Milan, Newcastle United, Rubin Kazan, Birmingham City and Seattle Sounders striker, who scored 18 times in 42 appearances for the Super Eagles.
