Leicester’s Rodgers banks on ‘top-class striker’ Iheanacho against Man United

LEICESTER City manager Brendan Rodgers has praised Kelechi Iheanacho ahead of the side’s Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford tomorrow.

The 26-year-old Nigeria international has been in fine form in recent weeks, scoring two goals and providing three assists in Leicester City’s last two wins over Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

Rodgers believes Iheanacho is one of the best forwards around when in form, and the Super Eagles star is likely to start his third successive Premier League fixture against United tomorrow.

“With Kelechi and his skill set it’s always about having the right players around him,” Rodgers said while previewing the Old Trafford encounter.

“He’s at a prime age, he’s always a threat, his touch is good. When he’s right in his game, he’s a top-class striker.”

Leicester City have scored eight goals in their last two matches, one more than they managed in their previous eight games, and Rodgers explains the progress.

He said: “It starts with the defending. If you look at the last two performances, from a defensive perspective, we were really good and that’s always the foundation to attack well.”

The former Liverpool manager commended Manchester United, who have improved significantly under the guidance of Dutchman Erik ten Hag, who joined the club in the summer.

“I look at Manchester United and I see the introduction of new players coming in, then at Erik [ten Hag] and his coaching team, how they’ve been able to coach the team and build organisation,” Rodgers noted.

“They’re up there and competing.”

Leicester City have had better results away from home than at the King Power Stadium this term, giving Rodgers confidence that they can get a result at Old Trafford.

“We know that travelling, we can go out and play without any fear,” he offered.

“We’re the second-highest scorers away from home in the league so we know we can go out and score goals.”

Leicester City are 13th in the Premier League table, while Manchester United are third.
