THE Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has congratulated the President-Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory in the 2023 Presidential election and urged him to reach out to other contestants in the spirit of sportsmanship and begin what it called a national healing process by personally reaching out to Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, in person not through proxies.
The group made the call in a statement issued by its Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, saying “hese are the ingredients that will soothe the nerves and restore peace across the country.
“We are aware of the tensions and anxieties building up and ranging from the south and spreading to every part of the country due to the poor performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the conduct of the 2023 presidential election and as Nigerians has lost confidence in the electoral umpire but there should be room for improvement in the future.
“Ndigbo urges the President-Elect not to victimize any section of the country who voted against him, but as the new political leader of the country he should ensure that Nigerians, especially Ndigbo are accommodated in the distribution of public amenities and provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in the country.”
The socio-cultural group also retract its earlier stance on Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and urge Ndigbo in the state to maintain absolute peace with their hosts, and vote their conscience in the March 11 governorship and State Assembly elections, and urge Governor Sanwo-Olu to provide adequate security across all markets in the state.
