Liverpool thrash Man United 7-0 to end unbeaten run

LIVERPOOL were ruthless today as they demolished Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield in their Premier League clash.

It is the biggest margin of victory for either team in the history of this fixture, eclipsing the 7-1 win by Liverpool in 1895, when United were still known as Newton Heath.

Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah scored two each, with substitute Roberto Firmino adding the seventh.

United had the better chances early on but Liverpool exploited huge gaps in their defence to open the scoring through Gakpo two minutes to half-time.

The hosts came up for the restart in devastating mood, netting two more in the first five minutes through Gakpo and Nunez to take the game away from their local rivals.

Salah added the fourth in the 66th minute, and Nunez completed his brace nine minutes later.

The Egypt forward made it 6-0 to become Liverpool’s all-time leading scorer with 129 goals, before Firmino added added icing on the cake with two minutes left on the clock.

The result ended Manchester United’s unbeaten run in all competitions at 11 games and propelled Liverpool to within three points of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, with a game in hand.

United are still third, four points ahead of Spurs.
