NIGERIAN airlines have continued to count their losses over the last February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The 10 operating scheduled airlines are estimated to have lost at least N10 billion for the more than one week of lull business as air travellers reduced drastically within the period.
The airlines, it was learnt, scaled down their operations by about 50 percent within the period to curb losses, yet most of them operated half empty to various destinations within the country.
Besides, over a week after the conduct of the elections, operating airlines are yet to return full services as most of them still operate about 50 percent of their services.
Some of the 10 airlines include Green Africa Airways, Air Peace, Max Air, Azman Air, Aero Contractors, ValueJet, United Nigeria, Ibom Air and Overland Airways.
Apart from Air Peace that earns about N500 million daily and the industry leader in terms of fleet capacity and network, others earn about N200 million daily from passenger movement.
Also, travel agencies across the country are also recording low patronage from their clients.
