THE Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Zamfara Central Senate candidate in the 2023 National Assembly elections, Ikra Bilbis, wants the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to proclaim him the winner of the February 25 elections.
He made the call while speaking to journalists in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, on the challenges that surfaced during and after the state’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
The PDP senatorial candidate, Ikra Bilbis, described as unfounded and false the collation officer’s assertion that the cancellation of election results in 19 wards and 74 polling units across four Local Government Areas was due to over voting and terrorist attacks.
Bilbis stated that he conducted independent research that revealed there was no over voting in those polling units and that people had since departed the areas where the Collation officer claimed terrorists launched an attack, resulting in the cancellation of the election results.
He said that he received 93,120 votes to defeat his nearest challenger, Senator Kabiru Marafa of the ruling All Progressives Party, APC, who received 79,144 votes.
Bilbis, the PDP senatorial candidate, stated that he wrote to the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, stating that he had won the election and that the commission should release the results and declare him the winner of the Zamfara Central senatorial election.
He added that he was puzzled as to why the Collation Officer, Professor Ahmad Galadima, declared the election inconclusive in the district despite the fact that the PDP’s Okra Bilbis senatorial candidate received 93,120 votes as opposed to the APC’s Senator Kabiru Marafa, who received 79,144 votes.
