Bus-train crash: Sanwo-Olu suspends campaign for three days

LAGOS State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has paused campaign activities ahead of the March 18 governorship election, following the accident between a train and a bus carrying state servants which occurred today.

The governor, who is campaigning for a second term, revealed this in a Facebook post upon his visit to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH where the majority of the accident victims are being treated.

In addition to postponing his campaign activities, Sanwo-Olu also declared that all flags would be flown at half-mast and all civil officials will work till 12 pm tomorrow before heading home to be with their loved ones during “this trying time”.

He solicited for blood donors for the casualties being treated at various state government medical facilities, emphasizing that some of them are still in critical condition.

The governor commended the LASUTH team for expertly establishing an outside triage center, which he noted has contributed to lifesaving, injury level profiling, and rapid vital action.

According to him, the bus carried 85 passengers, with six deaths, 42 moderate injuries, 29 serious injuries, and eight mild injuries, according to the LASUTH grading system.

He described the situation as entirely avoidable, stating that all that was required was patience and adherence to correct transportation protocol.
