FORMER Super Falcons head coach Ismaila Mabo is dead.
The ex-international died during the early hours of today at his residence in Jos, Plateau State at the age of 78.
He was believed to have been ill for months after losing his wife.
Mabo played for the Nigerian national team and Mighty Jets of Jos in the 1960s and 1970s before becoming a renowned coach.
He handled the women’s national team, the Super Falcons, and led them to their most successful FIFA Women’s World Cup ever in the United States in 1999, where they reached the quarter-finals.
Mabo was also in charge of the Super Falcons to the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia and 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles in between.
He will be buried according to Muslim rites later today in his hometown of Jos.
