FA Cup semi-finals: Man United draw Brighton, City to face Sheffield United

MANCHESTER United will play Brighton in the semi-finals of the FA Cup while Manchester City will battle Sheffield United, the draw held tonight revealed.

The matches will be held at the Wembley Stadium on the weekend of April 22 and April 23.

To reach their second semi-final of the season after the Carabao Cup which they went on to win, Manchester United came from behind tonight to beat nine-man Fulham 3-1 at Old Trafford tonight.

With Erik ten Hag’s side looking lethargic, Fulham took a deserved lead 10 minutes into the second half through Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Fulham were outplaying the listless hosts until the London club imploded with less than 20 minutes left in the match.

Willian stopped Jadon Sancho’s goal-bound shot with his hand and, after a VAR review, the Brazilian was sent off and Manchester United awarded a penalty.

Bruno Fernandes converted the spot kick in the 75th minute and Marcel Sarbitzer flicked in the second goal two minutes later to open his Manchester United account.

Fernandes blasted in from close range to give United a remarkable fourth straight 3-1 win in the FA Cup.

To reach the semi-finals, Brighton thrashed League Two side Grimsby Town 5-0 at the Amex Stadium today.

The third-tier side had won five straight ties against sides in higher divisions, but Deniz Undav’s early goal set the Seagulls on their way and Evan Ferguson added a brace in the second half.

Solly March and Kaoru Mitoma added icing to the Brighton cake with late strikes.

Manchester City, winners of the trophy in 2019, were the first team to book their place in the semi-finals.

They beat Burnley 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium yesterday, with Erling Haaland netting a hat-trick.

Sheffield United got the better of Blackburn Rovers in a thrilling all-Championship tie earlier today.

Blackburn led the Blades 2-1 at Bramall Lane with just 10 minutes to go, before Oli McBurnie and City loanee Tommy Doyle engineered a late turnaround, and Sheffield United became the first second-tier side to reach the semis since Reading in 2015.
